Best tour experience ever. I went on a fruit tour in one of the largest fruit market in Bogota and it did not disappoint. 31 fruits, empanadas, smoothies, coffee and 3 hours later I’m stuffed.

They said to come on an empty stomach and boy were they right. I was ready to explode by the end but I wouldn’t change it. If you’re ever in Bogota definitely check out this unique experience. Completely worth the price and a great way to learn about local produce.

2024 was a blast. I entered my 40th year with a bang. I began the year going to New Zealand, then had surgery, bounced back in May in Hawaii, celebrated my actual birthday in Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. Kicked off August in Belize and ended the year in St. Croix. All in all a great year. Looking forward to more travel in 2025.

Who says you need snow for Christmas to be special? The Crucians know how to have a good time with their annual Christmas boat parade and culminating fireworks show. It was by far the best fireworks show I’ve seen ever.

Gonna miss these epic views of beautiful St. Croix. From sunset cruises, fire dances and full moons shining on the ocean from my bedroom, it will be hard to return home.

So I met a local who has a tour company known for memorable moments. The day was indeed memorable from visiting rain forests, farms, local dams tens of feet deep to my favorite beer drinking pigs it was an experience not to be missed.

Dear Reader, when was the last time you took care of yourself? If you’re in the U.S. perhaps you are needing that more than ever. If you’re not in the U.S. I guarantee you too need a moment away from the chaos of life.

Join me in the wilderness, me the forest, squirrels and deer. I’m told a mountain lion and bear also reside here but I’m not planning on staying long enough to meet them. The deer have been great racing through the woods like I’m not here…truth be told they are likely looking at me like Sis what are you doing here? We don’t see many of your hue round these parts….🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I’m glad I’m here, yesterday I held space for several academics of color as I facilitated a workshop on trauma healing. So now that I took care of them, it’s time to take care of me. I can’t pour from an empty cup.

Go find your solitude, your healing is waiting; Jesus is waiting; peace is waiting; deliverance is waiting. Society is NOT.

Even Jesus retreated to the mountains to pray by himself away from the crowds. You don’t have to believe to get the benefit. Run don’t walk!

My heart is so full as my senior ladies celebrated my birthday tonight since I was out of the country for my actual birthday. I arrived and they adorned me with a crown with the number 40 on it and a sash with the words 40 & Fabulous on it. The house was tastefully decorated in purple for me (my favorite color) and a Cabernet Sauvignon from Spain ( I do love a good Spanish wine) and a vintage glass dated 1984.

The attention to detail was so exquisite, I was blown away. So grateful to have these ladies in my life.

Well folks it’s a wrap. One month later, 4 countries later, and after a lot of celebrations in finally home. Well….until I leave again in a few weeks 😜.
Here is my recap of an amazing celebration. Someone once asked me when was the last time you did something for the first time. So below are all my firsts during this celebration.
1. First time visiting Taiwan, Indonesia, Malaysia, & Singapore
2. First time spending a week at the ocean doing nothing.
3. First time eating at Michelin star restaurants.
4. First time having an eight course tasting menu
5. First time walking on rope 5 stories above people.
6. First time eating out of a toilet (it was a restaurant).
7. First time meeting people while traveling and adding them into my itinerary.
8. First time having a private chef prepare a sit down dinner.
9. First time losing my passport
10. First time filing a police report overseas.
11. First time staying at a villa
12. First time getting daily massages on vacation.
13. First time being afraid of visiting monkeys…lol
14. First time not working the entire time I was gone.
15. First time staying in hotels more than vacation rentals.
16. First time visiting night markets
17. First time traveling to predominantly Muslim nations.
18. First time going to an US based amusement park outside the US.
19. First time having friends meet me while traveling to join the shenanigans.
20. First time getting my nails done overseas.

And so much more…. I have one more trip before I settle back into my reality of work and responsibilities, till then, I’ll be sleeping off this jet lag and dreaming of my next ✈️.

When you’re in Singapore and realize that USS (Universal Studios Singapore) is less than 20 minutes from my hotel including car, cable ride and mono rail so why not. A time was had at USS before venturing to the rest of Sentosa Island.

Malls in Southeast Asia are different. But Singapore takes shopping to a WHOLE other level. Indoor gondola’s a Louis Vutton island in addition to a store front. And this was a regular mall. Basic stores and luxury stores alike in the same places and some of the best variety of food courts I’ve ever seen. Did I mention the mall had a convention center and linked to a hotel? Like most malls here it also connected to the MRT (metro) station making transportation a breeze.

Night Safari at the Singapore Zoo. Have you ever done a night safari? I’ve done many safari’s but never at night, it was cool to see the animals whilst folks are usually sleeping. The Singapore zoo is open for day time visitation from 7-6 and the nighttime safari from 7pm to midnight. Like Disney, there are multiple parks and the animals at the night safari aren’t the same as the ones in the zoo. A great time was had as animals walked by our tram, elephants were mere feet away from me and wallabies pretend to freeze when humans come around. But my favorite had to be the white tigers. These massive animals have both the African and Asian Lions a run for their money. #nightsafari #nightsafarisingapore #thisis40 #wanderlust #globetrotting

I was stopped multiple times as my emergency passport left them befuddled. Even after clearing immigration I was stopped again at the gate. Nonetheless, they allowed me to board and immigration in Singapore was a breeze. Welcome to my 30s!!! A time of excitement and adulting. In this decade, I completed my educational studies, got married and divorced and moved too many times to count. But it was one of my most fun decades. Here’s hoping Singapore gives Indonesia a run for its money on the fun scale.

Update: Many of you have inquired about an update here it is.
The US Embassy contacted me and gave me an early appointment for an emergency passport. I took a bus from Penang to Kuala Lumpur where Angela checked in to our hotel for the next few days. I went to the Embassy for my emergency appointment. The process was seamless. I was in an out in an hour. Emergency passports are valid for 1 year and only have a few pages. I will need to apply for a permanent passport within the year to avoid paying another fee. After leaving the embassy I had to go the local immigration office for a special pass to be able to leave the country. While the US embassy was a breeze the Malaysian immigration office was a nightmare. There’s nothing worse than being in a foreign country trying to do official business and feeling helpless at the mercy of others. I was stressed, had a migraine and could feel my blood pressure rising with each new person I spoke to. The last time I felt this way I was living in Poland and was hospitalized for stomach issues. After days of not getting better they wanted to do exploratory surgery and my polish wasn’t confident enough to trust the doctors with body while I was unconscious. Of course this was in my 20s the decade of this location. Malaysia is truly very fitting.
After holding back tears and waiting 90 minutes. I finally have my special pass. (When you look up at the number they are serving it’s 1006 and your number is 2001, but by some miracle 60 minutes pass and your number is called) Thank you for all your prayers. Pray that Singapore accepts my emergency passport and Belize does as well next month.
Tomorrow is Angela’s birthday and we plan on having a spa day. I might need this day more than her. I’m tired, not sleeping, stressed, anxious, and long to be taken care of. Till then, I’ll keeping putting one foot in front of the other, hoping that the waves don’t engulf me. It’s nap time.💤

It is truly the mercy of God that I survived this visit to the monkey forest. I’m not afraid of much but monkeys jumping in me and climbing all over my body? It’s a one time thing. When you go to Taiwan for the first time and are eating with the locals when the uncle across the way says “have you been living in Taiwan long”? Me: No, I’m visiting. Him: have you lived in China? Me: No. Him: how come you know how to use chopsticks? You use them very well. Me: I practiced.
I may not speak the language of every country I visit, but I will adhere to and learn local culture and customs. Global education, culture and appreciation goes a long way.

Sometimes I forget how much I enjoy getting on planes, going to new places, trying new things and making new memories. New Zealand, thank you for kicking of 2024 right. I’ll be back. @sandyofauckland2006 it was great seeing you again. Let’s not wait 18 years for the next encounter.
And folks the water colors are real, that lake really is lime green and yes that’s yellow and brown in the water behind me. The beauty of creation and the magic of volcanic sulphur.

It’s summer time so I’m back in planes again. Oh how I’ve missed you. To kick off the summer it’s a return to the east coast - the DMV my old stomping grounds. I hadn’t been home in 3 years and had the pleasure of connecting with folks while home. From old college friends to newer friends this trip was filled with love, laughter, and libations.

As we exist the year of our Lord 2022, I reflect back on my goal for the year.

I began the year ready to return to travel and use my passport again. I pledged to get on an airplane once per month. I didn’t care where I went, as long as it required a plane to get there.

My intent was to travel the U.S. but my subscription to @scottscheapflights provided me with so many fabulous international options that I ended up traveling to 10 countries this year.

So here’s my recap of travel this year.

January - no trips, plan my year of adventure
February - Seattle & Costa Rica 🇨🇷
March - Spain 🇪🇸
April - no travel
May - Fresno, CA; West Haven, CT; Portland Oregon
June - French Polynesia 🇵🇫
July - Panama 🇵🇦
August - India 🇮🇳 & Guatemala 🇬🇹
September - Ireland 🇮🇪
October - Puerto Rico 🇵🇷
November - Fiji 🇫🇯
December - Turks and Caicos 🇹🇨

What a wonderful year of travel it was. Now that the year is over I will continue traveling but not to the same extent. Once I’m #debtfree the real travel can begin. The adventures continue…
